Golf Alternate Shot Format
Alternate shot is a two-person team format where partners play one ball and take turns hitting shots until the hole is completed.
How Alternate Shot Works
In alternate shot, two partners play as one team using one ball. One player tees off, the other player hits the next shot, and they continue alternating shots until the ball is holed.
Teams often decide before the round which player will tee off on odd holes and which player will tee off on even holes.

Alternate Shot vs Chapman
Alternate shot usually begins with one partner teeing off and players alternating from that point forward.
Chapman gives both players a tee shot and a second shot before the team chooses one ball and then plays alternate shot. Chapman is usually more forgiving, while alternate shot is a tougher test of partner play.
