Golf Shamble Format

A shamble combines elements of a scramble and traditional stroke play, creating a format that rewards both teamwork and individual performance.

How A Shamble Works

All players tee off. The team selects the best drive, and every player then plays their own ball from that location until the hole is completed.

Unlike a scramble, only the drive is shared. After that, individual golf skills determine the outcome of the hole.

Team Drive

Best Drive Selected

Every player hits a tee shot, and the team chooses the best drive.

  • All players tee off
  • One drive selected
  • Team strategy
  • Faster play
Individual Play

Play Your Own Ball

Once the drive is selected, each golfer plays their own ball through the remainder of the hole.

  • Individual scoring
  • Real golf shots matter
  • More skill-based
  • Less luck than scrambles

Common Shamble Variations

Shamble vs Scramble

In a scramble, every shot is played from the team's selected position.

In a shamble, only the drive is shared. After that, players continue playing their own golf ball.

This makes a shamble a stronger test of individual golf skills while still providing some team benefits.
